God’s Gift of HU
A Woman Witnesses a Sacred Meeting Through the Gift of HUBy Carolyn Veno
The circus was coming to town!
I’ve loved circuses all my life. Usually, I’m too busy to go. But when my favorite one came to town, I felt such a strong desire to attend that I took the time to see it.
I discovered that the venue was small, with only a one-ring performance, and it was likely to be crowded. Still, I wanted to sit as close as I could.
When I went to buy the tickets, I was excited to find there were still some seats available on the main floor, about fifty feet from the ring. I happily purchased two tickets for my husband and myself.
We arrived early so we could see the animals and meet some of the performers. Then we settled into our seats to enjoy the show.
A half hour into the program, two young female acrobats appeared and began climbing up one hundred feet of silk fabric which was fastened to a metal ring connected to the ceiling.
Although they were many feet in the air, the acrobats seemed quite close to where we were sitting, and we marveled at the beautiful movements they performed high above us while holding on to the fabric.
Suddenly, the ring holding the fabric of the acrobat closest to me snapped, sending her headfirst toward the concrete floor. With a fall from that height, I knew she could not survive.
She lay there, not moving, and for a brief moment all was still. All the performances had stopped as her coworkers, including her husband, rushed over to her.
Saddened at what I had just witnessed, I wondered, Why did I feel the need to sit so close?
At that moment, I remembered that the song of HU can bring help to anyone who might need it, so I began to sing this beautiful love song to God very softly to myself. I sang it for about ten minutes. Then, inwardly, I saw something truly amazing.
Amidst the confusion that surrounded the body lying on the concrete floor, I saw the female acrobat in her inner form. She had left her physical body and was looking down at it from above, watching the scene below.
Suddenly the Inner Master, Wah Z, was standing beside her. I watched as they talked together like old friends. Soon after, they left.
After I returned home, I wondered about this experience. As a member of Eckankar, I know that when someone sings HU to give love and service, without directing Divine Spirit in any way, this beautiful song will give support to those who are ready to receive this help.
Yet, I had always expected to give service to others in happy ways. I had not given any thought to the more difficult or painful situations I might encounter. Then I came across this quote from Sri Harold Klemp, the spiritual leader of Eckankar:
“HU, this ancient name for God, is a love song to God. You can sing it. And in singing it or holding it in your mind during times of need, it becomes a prayer. It becomes a prayer of the highest sort.” (Sri Harold Klemp, Love – The Keystone of Life).
I realized that singing HU allowed me to witness a sacred meeting between Soul and the Mahanta. I was able to share in the joy of the Master greeting an old friend.
I gained a deeper understanding of how the ECK, or Holy Spirit, works and how It awakens me to the greater levels of service I can give. I am very grateful for the HU, for this spiritual awakening, and for learning ever greater ways to serve life.
